II Chronicles 8:12Sefaria

The completion of the Temple marked a turning point in the religious life of the nation, shifting the focus of worship to a single, unified location. With the construction finished, a new era of sacrificial service began. The practice of offering sacrifices on private altars was strictly forbidden. From this point forward, all offerings were brought exclusively to the central altar located in front of the Temple hall [מצודת דוד].

King Solomon's involvement in the sacrifices went beyond the physical act of worship, highlighting a profound personal commitment. He took it upon himself to finance the sacrifices directly from his own wealth. While the Book of Kings notes that he paid for the offerings during the three pilgrimage festivals, it is understood here that he actually covered the expenses for all public sacrifices. This generous undertaking included the daily continuous offerings, along with the additional sacrifices required for Sabbaths, new moons, and festival days [מלבי״ם].

These offerings were presented on the copper altar constructed by Solomon. One perspective suggests that Solomon built a new copper altar and placed it beneath the original copper altar crafted by Moses in the desert. However, this view presents a difficulty, as other records indicate that the altar already standing in that location was itself made of copper [רש״י].
