A wave of devastation is set to sweep across the region, expanding far beyond familiar local borders. The primary approach among commentators is that although the Kingdom of Judah was the prophet's main focus, the impending disaster will not stop there. It will not be limited to Judah or other small nations like it.

Instead, the destruction will grow to engulf major superpowers. At the forefront of these empires is the King of Egypt. The Egyptian ruler will suffer this severe blow alongside his entire chain of government, including his servants and ministers, as well as his entire nation.
