Jeremiah's plea to the people did not occur in a vacuum. Instead, it served as one link in a long, continuous chain of prophetic warnings. He emphasizes that he was not the only messenger speaking to them; God had sent numerous other prophets to guide the nation. Today, we only possess fragments of information about some of these individuals, as their messages were never recorded in writing or included in the biblical books [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

God dispatched these messengers with great urgency and constant persistence [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Yet, despite these repeated appeals, the reaction of the people was complete indifference. Their failure to listen or even pay attention highlights an intentional deafness. This repeated refusal emphasizes their stubborn unwillingness to accept the words of the prophets [מצודת דוד].
