The scale of destruction and death will be so massive that the most basic dignity usually afforded to the dead will be completely stripped away. The primary approach among commentators is that the fallen are those who will perish by the direct decree of God.

Because the sheer number of casualties will be so overwhelming, the survivors will be entirely unable to manage the aftermath. There will be no opportunity to mourn the victims, nor will anyone be available to gather the bodies and bring them to a designated resting place. The dead will simply be left outside without anyone to care for them or offer them a proper burial.

As a result of this severe neglect, the bodies will be reduced to mere waste. They will decay and remain lying on the surface of the earth in total disgrace, no different from manure spread across a field.
