To illustrate the absolute permanence of these agreements, the prophecy draws a direct comparison to the fixed laws of nature, specifically the unending cycle of day and night. The message directed to the people is that just as human beings have no power to cancel the basic order of creation or the physical laws governing heaven and earth, they are equally powerless to permanently break or erase the royal covenant of David and the priestly covenant of Aaron.

The nation's own actions had previously led to a divided kingdom and a severe decline in the numbers of both David's descendants and the serving priests. Despite this reality, God promises a complete reversal. He guarantees that He will multiply these chosen families without limit, making them as impossible to count as the stars in the sky and as impossible to measure as the sand on the seashore.
