During the time of the destruction, a deep sense of hopelessness took hold of the people. Seeing the collapse of the Davidic royal line and the end of the Aaronite priesthood, many believed that God had completely canceled His covenant with the Israelites and rejected them entirely. To combat this widespread despair, a new prophetic message emerges to reassure the nation. Its purpose is to prove that God's covenant with the people, as well as the future of the kingship and the priesthood, remains eternal and unbroken [אברבנאל].

Although this message deals with the exact same themes as the previous revelations [ביאור שטיינזלץ], the nature of its delivery reveals a distinct pause in the flow of communication. Instead of a continuous, uninterrupted stream of divine speech, the prophecy stopped for a short time. This break was necessary to grant the prophet physical rest and a chance to regain his strength. Once he was ready, God spoke to him again. The renewed message was grouped together with the earlier ones because they share the same core subject [אברבנאל].
