Jeremiah 33:20Sefaria

God presents a powerful challenge, establishing an absolute comparison between the unchangeable laws of nature and His eternal promises. He poses an impossible condition to humanity: imagine trying to break the very laws of time. This enduring reality refers to the covenant God made with the cycle of day and night [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ], an unbreakable system that cannot be canceled [מצודת ציון]. This is the exact same promise given to Noah and his sons following the flood, guaranteeing that day and night would never cease [רש״י, רד״ק]. To emphasize this point, the idea is repeated, stressing that day and night will always occur exactly at their set times and seasons

The purpose of pointing to these unbending laws of nature is to show the eternal nature of God's covenant with King David and Aaron the Priest. The primary approach among commentators is that just as humans are completely powerless to break the laws of creation, the covenant of kingship and priesthood will never be broken [רד״ק]. Building on this understanding, a deeper perspective reveals that the covenant of kingship and priesthood is actually essential for the existence of all reality, just like the laws of nature. This precise comparison carries a double promise. First, just as the cycle of day and night can never be permanently stopped, the line of kings and priests will never be permanently broken. Second, just as day and night always appear precisely when they are supposed to, the future redemption will arrive exactly at its appointed time [מלבי״ם].
