Numbers 12:7Sefaria

The prophetic level of Moses stands entirely apart from any other human experience, defined by an unmatched closeness, clarity, and permanence. He is not merely a prophet but a dedicated servant who stands constantly in the service of God [רש ר הירש]. This absolute distinction sets him far above all others While most prophets experience divine revelation only on rare occasions, often veiled in the haze of sleep or dreams, Moses receives prophecy while fully awake, perceiving God's message through a perfectly clear lens and by His explicit name

The primary approach among commentators is to view Moses's position as a metaphor for extraordinary intimacy. He is likened to a beloved, trusted member of a royal household who may enter and exit the King's private chambers at will, without needing prior permission, able to speak with God whenever necessary Because of this profound closeness, the inner workings of both the upper and lower realms are open to him. He can move beyond the surface of the physical world to grasp the deepest divine secrets in the most direct manner

Other perspectives suggest that this position of trust relates directly to the entire nation of the Israelites, marking Moses as the most chosen and reliable individual among all the people and servants of God A unique approach connects his status to the realm of wisdom and inner understanding. According to this thought, Moses's physical body was so pure that it posed no barrier to divine comprehension, unlike other prophets whose physical forms would violently shake and weaken when receiving a vision [הכתב והקבלה].

Moses's unparalleled greatness is completed by his absolute reliability, a quality understood on several levels. At its foundation, it represents constant stability, much like a peg firmly planted in its place [רשב״ם]. It also reflects his physical endurance during revelation, as he remained steady without any weakness or trembling [הכתב והקבלה]. On another level, his reliability is evident in the clarity of his message. Because God communicates with him directly rather than through riddles or metaphors, Moses's words are the absolute, simple truth, leaving no room for him to misunderstand God's intent

A deeper layer ties this loyalty to his remarkable restraint and ability to keep a secret. While other prophets openly detailed the heavenly visions they witnessed, Moses, who saw far more than anyone else, kept these matters hidden and never boasted of his experiences Furthermore, his ultimate faithfulness is proven by his restraint with power. Although he held the immense knowledge of God's explicit name, the very name used to create the world, he never once used it for his own personal needs. True loyalty is measured precisely in a person who holds incredible power but chooses to hold back out of pure faith [העמק דבר].
