A ruler must navigate countless judgments, conflicts, public needs, and individual claims, directing his attention to them all [רש״י, מצודת דוד]. The political system is so intricate, with constantly shifting situations brought before the throne, that it demands an incredibly broad perspective to ensure every person receives what is fair [רלב״ג, מלבי״ם]. Even if a king is not exceptionally great as a private individual, the sheer necessity of holding all the desires and secrets of the state makes his role an endless endeavor. The scope of such authority is so vast that even if every tongue were to speak and every hand were to write, it could not be fully described [רש״י, שטיינזלץ].
Challenging the idea that nature is entirely immeasurable, a different viewpoint suggests either an element of exaggeration or a sharp contrast. Because scientific tools and astronomical calculations can accurately measure the earth's circumference and the distances to the stars, the physical world can indeed be investigated with clear evidence. Therefore, the true contrast lies in the fact that while the heights of the sky and the depths of the earth can be measured, it is specifically the heart of a king that remains entirely boundless and unsearchable due to the endless matters placed before him [עמנואל הרומי].
On a deeper level, the concept of kings is understood allegorically as a reference to wise scholars or the hidden secrets of God [אלשיך]. From this perspective, clear boundaries are set regarding human understanding of the Divine. Humanity is fully capable and permitted to investigate God's actions as they are reflected in the physical creation of the sky and the earth. However, probing into God's true essence and the profound secrets of His leadership remains entirely hidden, existing as a mystery that the human mind simply cannot grasp [עמנואל הרומי].
