תהלים, פרק קמ״ה, פסוק ה׳

Psalms 145:5Sefaria

הֲ֭דַר כְּב֣וֹד הוֹדֶ֑ךָ וְדִבְרֵ֖י נִפְלְאֹתֶ֣יךָ אָשִֽׂיחָה׃

Shifting from the collective praise of future generations, the psalmist turns inward to express his own unique relationship with God. He seeks to give voice to the beauty, glory, and strength of the Creator. The primary approach among commentators is that this reflects a deep desire to actively converse about God's majesty and wondrous deeds [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ, המאירי].

Beyond this simple understanding, commentators highlight a profound division between the revealed and the hidden. One aspect of God's glory represents external beauty and the visible laws of nature. Another layer points to the inner essence and the unseen lights that form the foundation of creation [מלבי״ם, אבן עזרא]. God's wonders refer to supernatural events and deep secrets that ordinary generations cannot fully understand [אבן עזרא, מלבי״ם], as well as the personal, wondrous acts of kindness He performs for an individual [רד״ק]. Another perspective connects these concepts to the dawn of creation, linking them to the hidden light and the divine energy that flows down into the world [אלשיך].

The specific type of communication chosen by the psalmist carries special meaning. While future generations might loudly announce new discoveries, the psalmist engages in natural, everyday conversation. Because he is so intimately familiar with the wonders of creation, talking about them becomes a flowing action that requires no special effort [מלבי״ם]. Alternatively, this communication is understood as a quiet, inner contemplation within the heart, standing in sharp contrast to the public declarations of the masses [אבן עזרא].

Another unique approach suggests that this conversational tone is born out of profound awe. Since these are the deepest secrets of creation, the psalmist resolves to only speak of them gently, not daring to investigate or probe them too deeply because they remain sacred mysteries [אלשיך]. Ultimately, the purpose behind this personal expression is to inspire others, moving the entire world to join in and share the stories of God's endless kindness [רד״ק].
