The reality presented is a sad one, where the very pursuit of justice and kindness becomes a trigger for hostility and persecution. The individuals acting against the poet are actually people he has helped in the past. Instead of showing gratitude, they return his kindness with cruelty [רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This past kindness took several forms. He was always eager and ready to assist them [מצודת דוד], even going so far as to visit and care for them during their times of illness [אבן עזרא]. Viewed through a spiritual lens, this kindness also included moral guidance, as he tried to correct their behavior and steer them away from a destructive path [מאירי].

In response to these caring actions, these individuals harbor deep resentment and hostility [מצודת ציון]. Their reaction goes beyond simple dislike, turning into active persecution. They look for false accusations to use against him. Even when he humbly admits his own faults, they refuse to believe his sincerity, and their hatred only grows [מלבי״ם].

Tragically, his good deeds are weaponized against him. Rather than recognizing his genuine devotion to the Torah, his enemies accuse him of arrogance. They claim his righteous behavior is nothing more than a public show designed to flaunt his own purity [אלשיך]. Ultimately, this fierce hostility stems directly from his unwavering commitment to God and His commandments [רש״י]. It is a classic case of jealousy and baseless hatred. Because his enemies have chosen a path of wrongdoing, they simply cannot tolerate his constant, dedicated pursuit of what is good [רד״ק].
