The divine communication marks a significant turning point in the instructions for building the Tabernacle. Following the completion of all the technical blueprints for the sanctuary, the final steps are to appoint the master artisans who will execute the work and to present the divine tablets of testimony that will be housed within it [רש ר הירש].
A direct statement from God is necessary at this moment due to underlying tensions and disputes among the Israelites regarding who should build the sanctuary. Moses hesitates to appoint Bezalel, as the two are relatives, and he fears accusations of favoritism. At the same time, the people harbor deep doubts. They question how men who spent years performing hard physical labor with mortar and bricks in Egypt could possibly possess the refined skills needed for delicate artistry with gold and precious stones. Furthermore, some argue that Oholiab is actually more talented and should be the one to lead the project [אברבנאל].
To resolve these doubts, God steps in to make it entirely clear that the selection of the artisans is an absolute, divine choice. Bezalel and Oholiab are appointed simply because there is no one else like them in the entire nation [אבן עזרא].
God explains to Moses that He has personally infused Bezalel with a miraculous divine spirit, granting him an exceptionally rare combination of abilities. Human nature typically dictates that spiritual thinkers struggle with physical labor, while manual laborers often lack deep theoretical insight. Bezalel, however, possesses both. He is endowed with the spiritual and theoretical wisdom required to grasp the profound secrets and hidden meanings of the Tabernacle. Alongside this, he has extraordinary practical and technical talent, enabling him to personally execute every type of craft, from the most delicate goldsmithing to the heavy labor of chopping wood and carving stones [אברבנאל].
