Looking back, God highlights the absolute defeat of David's enemies. This was not merely an expression of a desire to help, but a decisive, completed elimination of threats that had already been accomplished [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Looking forward, God promises David a reputation matching the greatest leaders on earth. On a historical level, this meant David would achieve worldwide fame, standing alongside the most renowned kings [רש״י, מצודת דוד]. This promise became a reality as his reputation spread across all lands, and God cast a dread of him upon surrounding nations [רש״י, רד״ק]. In fact, David became the first leader since Joshua to achieve international recognition beyond his own borders [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Beyond earthly fame, this promise carries a profound, eternal spiritual weight. The comparison to the greatest leaders specifically points to the founding fathers of the nation. Just as Abraham and the other Patriarchs are immortalized in the daily prayers with the blessing of the "Shield of the Fathers," David was granted his own permanent blessing, known as the "Shield of David" [מצודת דוד, חומת אנך]. David acknowledges this unique merit in the book of Psalms, expressing his gratitude by calling God his personal shield. Achieving this blessing represents such a towering spiritual peak that it actually provides a degree of spiritual repair for the original sin of the first man [חומת אנך].
