Biblical family trees often present names that do not exactly match those found in earlier records. Certain individuals in the genealogical lists, such as Nohah and Rapha, appear unfamiliar compared to older historical accounts. The primary approach among commentators is that some of these individuals are actually the same people mentioned in the Torah, just recorded with slight variations. Other names in these lists, however, remain entirely unidentified.

This variation is a common feature throughout the historical records. It is understood that many people went by two different names or were known by additional nicknames, which naturally accounts for the differences between the ancient lists and later family records.
