True connection to the Divine is not found in abstract philosophy or theoretical study. Instead, it is expressed through everyday acts of justice, fairness, and deep compassion for the most vulnerable members of society.

When a person actively defends the rights of the poor and the needy, this pursuit of justice creates a profound sense of inner well-being. This well-being goes beyond simply handling major, high-profile cases and reaches deeply into personal, everyday life. Even during moments of rest, such as sitting down for a meal, a truly just person makes time to address the struggles of the impoverished. The joy and satisfaction experienced in these moments do not come from the physical pleasures of food and drink, but from the very act of establishing justice and rescuing the oppressed [מלבי״ם].

Defending the helpless is the ultimate definition of knowing God. By practicing justice and charity, a person aligns directly with God's own ways, extending the same mercy to the poor that He does [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. These actions serve as the clearest evidence of a genuine relationship with God, as this is precisely the behavior and understanding that He desires and demands from humanity [רד״ק, מלבי״ם].
