ירמיהו, פרק כ״ב, פסוק א׳

Jeremiah 22:1Sefaria

To deliver a direct and personal message to the political leadership, a prophet must sometimes change his physical location. God commands Jeremiah to leave his current spot and travel to the royal palace to deliver a prophecy. The instruction to go down to the king's residence reveals exactly where the prophet was standing when God spoke to Him. At that moment, Jeremiah was on the Temple Mount, making it necessary for him to physically descend from the mountain to reach the palace [רד"ק, אברבנאל].

The purpose behind delivering the message specifically inside the palace is understood through two complementary viewpoints. One approach suggests that this prophecy had already been spoken to the entire royal family in the past. However, God wanted Jeremiah to repeat it directly inside their own homes to promise them a good future if they chose to listen to His voice [רד"ק].

Another perspective highlights the personal and respectful nature of the visit. By traveling directly to the royal palace, the prophet showed honor to the king of Judah, allowing him to share the message privately. Yet, even though the words were spoken to the king alone in secret, the moral call for justice and righteousness was designed to ultimately influence his servants and all the people who passed through the palace gates [אברבנאל].
