מיכה, פרק ג׳, פסוק ח׳

A true messenger of God stands in sharp contrast to those who merely tell the masses what they want to hear. While false prophets adjust their messages to meet public expectations, flatter the powerful, and promise good fortune only to those who support them, a genuine prophet remains firmly rooted in divine truth, ready to deliver harsh but necessary correction. Armed with divine strength, the true prophet is filled directly by the spirit of God. Unlike the false seers of the generation, who lack any real divine response and rely on empty illusions, the authentic prophet draws his ability to speak straight from God [מלבי״ם, מצודת דוד].

This divine connection grants him profound moral and mental resilience, characterized by a deep sense of justice and undeniable courage. Justice drives his commitment to truth, righteousness, and honest rebuke, while his courage allows him to speak freely, without any fear of the nation's officers and leaders [אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. He refuses to back down, flatter the elite, or praise the corrupt actions of the people just to win their favor [רד״ק].

The ultimate purpose of this God-given power and bravery is to confront the nation with its failures. The prophet does not hesitate to expose their corruption, addressing the distinct spiritual states of the people. The ten tribes, representing Jacob, are rebuked for severe transgressions, as their actions reflect an intentional rebellion through idolatry. In contrast, the tribe of Judah, representing Israel, is called out for ordinary sins, which stem not from outright rebellion, but from human weakness and worldly desires [מלבי״ם].
