The vast distance between divine infinity and human limitation forms the foundation of how people must approach praising their Creator. The primary approach among commentators is that humans cannot actually add anything to God's honor, as He is inherently great and entirely worthy of praise on His own. His immense greatness stems directly from the fact that He is the primary cause of all existence and the ultimate source from which everything flows [מלבי״ם]. Consequently, God deserves to be honored far beyond what any human being is capable of expressing. Unlike mortal kings, whose power is strictly limited and bound by a beginning and an end, God possesses an infinite greatness. Because of this endless nature, He will always remain infinitely more exalted than anyone who attempts to praise Him [אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד].

Because His greatness has no boundaries, all human praises ultimately fall short of capturing His true magnitude. His reality exists completely beyond the reach of human understanding or investigation. In fact, the deeper a person attempts to explore God's greatness, the more they realize how little they truly know. This pursuit leads to a profound philosophical realization: the descriptive words and attributes people assign to God do not actually define His positive essence. Instead, they merely serve to confirm that He is entirely free of any flaws or limitations [מלבי״ם].

Building on this understanding, commentators agree that any praise a person offers is naturally restricted by the limits of their own personal intellect. A person cannot uncover the depths of divine truth through independent logical investigation alone. Instead of relying purely on the mind, one must lean on the established traditions and wisdom faithfully passed down through the generations [מאירי].
