True faith is not built on blind devotion, but on a clear recognition of God's constant presence and active care, especially during times of crisis. When people observe God acting as a shelter for the oppressed and standing by them in their darkest moments, their trust in Him deepens and solidifies [אבן עזרא, רד״ק, מצודת דוד].
There is a unique spiritual level achieved by those who truly recognize God's reality and form a deep connection with Him [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This level of knowing is considered exceptionally high, surpassing even the level of those who simply desire a relationship with God. While someone who desires God is still hoping for spiritual understanding, a person who knows God has already reached a clear, complete awareness. Because of this profound understanding, they place their trust in God constantly, relying entirely on His direct and miraculous guidance without the need for any intermediaries [מלבי״ם].
This creates a meaningful distinction between those who already know God and those who are actively seeking Him [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. God's mercy is so vast that He protects those who have achieved this deep knowledge, even if they do not explicitly pray or call out to Him in a specific moment of need. From this, a natural conclusion arises. If those who do not actively ask are protected, then those who actively seek God will certainly never be abandoned [אלשיך].
This guarantee of protection takes on even greater meaning during periods of exile and severe distress. God may not always completely remove a person's hardship or poverty, but He never abandons those who seek Him to face harsh judgment alone. Precisely during the most intense moments of suffering, He provides relief, acting as a secure fortress and a shield [אלשיך]. He does this because His careful watchfulness remains constantly and intimately attached to them [מלבי״ם].
