Ecclesiastes 12:9Sefaria

At the conclusion of his life's work, King Solomon is remembered not merely as an individual of extraordinary intellect, but as a master educator who dedicated himself to sharing his wisdom with the public. While his personal knowledge extended far beyond what he could ever record in writing [רש״י, צאינה וראינה], his true greatness lay in his refusal to keep this brilliance to himself. He possessed the unique virtue of investing his time and energy into teaching others

This decision to educate the masses was not a simple one. Often, a person of profound and sharp intellect struggles to teach ordinary people, as the gap between them is like trying to pour a massive barrel of liquid into a tiny cup. Furthermore, a scholar immersed in complex matters might view teaching basic morals to the general public as a waste of time. Yet, Solomon demonstrated that his authentic greatness was his remarkable ability to simplify his vast wisdom, making it accessible to even the most ordinary individuals. He understood that guiding the public and teaching moral behavior is a supreme priority To ensure his lessons were absorbed, he even employed memory aids, such as musical notes, to help the people retain the material [תורה תמימה].

In his quest to guide the people, Solomon engaged in a rigorous process of study and legislation. The primary approach among commentators divides his methods into two distinct but complementary paths. On an educational and intellectual level, he listened closely to the traditions he received from his own teachers [תעלומות חכמה, אלשיך], carefully weighed these concepts in his mind [ביאור שטיינזלץ, אבן עזרא], and drew logical conclusions. He then empowered the people by giving them the tools and methods to investigate wisdom for themselves

On a practical, legal level, Solomon provided a secure way for the people to grasp the law. The Torah is often compared to a heavy basket without handles, making it difficult to hold without tearing it. Solomon fashioned "handles" for the Torah by establishing specific decrees and boundaries, such as the requirement to wash hands, communal boundaries for carrying on the Sabbath, and extensions of marriage prohibitions. These regulations serve as a protective fence around the core laws of the Torah, allowing the people to safely hold onto it and observe it properly

As a result of his deep investigations, Solomon composed thousands of parables and proverbs. The need for such a massive collection of parables stemmed directly from the sheer depth of his wisdom. When attempting to explain a profoundly deep concept to a simple person, a parable is essential. Occasionally, the initial parable itself was so deep that it required yet another parable to explain the first one [תורה תמימה]. However, these teachings were never the product of detached human logic, as is common among various philosophers. Instead, every parable was firmly rooted in the absolute truth of the Torah given at Mount Sinai, carefully crafted to be brief, direct, and purposeful [אלשיך].
