The completion of the Tabernacle involved bringing all the newly crafted items to Moses, including the special table and its accompanying items. However, the mention of the Showbread at this stage of the construction process raises significant questions about the timeline and the exact nature of the work.

According to tradition, baking was not considered one of the official construction crafts of the Tabernacle. Furthermore, there was a gap of over three months between the completion of the craftsmanship and the actual setup of the sanctuary. It is highly unlikely that the bread was baked at this early stage, as it would have spoiled while waiting for the table to be put into use [העמק דבר, הכתב והקבלה].

To resolve this timeline issue, one approach suggests that Bezalel did indeed bake a loaf of bread, but only as a sample to demonstrate his unique skill. This specific loaf was never actually placed on the table; fresh bread was baked later when the Tabernacle was finally erected. Because this initial baking was merely a demonstration and never put to practical use, it is not counted among the official crafts of the Tabernacle [העמק דבר].

Another perspective argues that the bread itself was not baked at this time at all. Instead, the reference to the bread actually applies to the crafting of the physical utensils required for it. In this view, the artisans made the tools needed for the table as well as the specific molds, bowls, and spoons required to prepare and hold the Showbread [הכתב והקבלה].

Interestingly, despite the focus on preparing the bread or its utensils while the Israelites were still in the desert, the fundamental obligation to fulfill the Commandment of the Showbread only took effect later, once they entered the Land of Israel [פרדס יוסף].
