Ezekiel 25:14Sefaria

Edom faces a devastating reckoning, but their downfall will not arrive through a sudden strike from heaven. Instead, the Israelites themselves will act as God's chosen messengers to carry out the judgment and execute His justice [רש״י].

The primary approach among commentators is that this prophecy points to the distant future, specifically the end of days and the Messianic era. During this time, the Messiah son of Joseph will lead the charge to avenge the desecration of God's name [מלבי״ם]. The targets of this ultimate retribution will be Amalek and Mount Seir [מצודת דוד]. However, another perspective suggests that these events might have already taken place during the Second Temple period. In that era, the Israelites successfully overpowered and destroyed Edom, even though these historical victories were not explicitly documented in the prophetic books [רד״ק].

Whenever this judgment unfolds, the severity of the blow against Edom will not be arbitrary. The intensity of the destruction will perfectly match the immense anger and wrath that God has reserved for them [רד״ק, מלבי״ם]. The Israelites will deliver a punishment that aligns flawlessly with this stored divine rage [מצודת דוד].

The ultimate goal of this punishment goes beyond mere defeat. It is designed to bring about a profound realization. Edom will clearly recognize and understand that their collapse is not a random twist of historical fate, but a deliberate and calculated act of divine revenge
