יחזקאל, פרק ל״ה, פסוק י״ג

Ezekiel 35:13Sefaria

וַתַּגְדִּ֤ילוּ עָלַי֙ בְּפִיכֶ֔ם וְהַעְתַּרְתֶּ֥ם עָלַ֖י דִּבְרֵיכֶ֑ם אֲנִ֖י שָׁמָֽעְתִּי׃ {ס}

The hostility of Israel's enemies extends far beyond physical conflict or national hatred. Their actions ultimately cross the line into extreme arrogance, becoming a direct assault on the honor of God Himself. This hostility is expressed through proud and arrogant speech directed against God [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Taking this a step further, the enemies uttered alarming theological claims that attacked the Divine directly [מלבי״ם]. Alternatively, their arrogance was rooted in a fundamental dismissal of God; their supreme insolence was simply the belief that He was completely deaf to their wicked plans [רד״ק].

Not only did they speak against God, but they actively intensified their attacks. The primary approach among commentators is that this represents a deliberate multiplication of their hostility, pouring out an overwhelming volume of insults, blasphemy, and harsh rhetoric [מצודת דוד, רד״ק]. This continuous flood of words reflected their grand dreams of conquest and relentless boasting [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Others explain that they went into deep, slanderous detail, spreading nonsensical and damaging lies about God [מלבי״ם].

Ultimately, the enemies are deeply mistaken in their assumption that they can speak without consequence. God makes it clear that absolutely nothing escapes His knowledge. He has listened to every piece of malicious slander, recognizing each word as a direct strike against His honor [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם].
