דברי הימים ב, פרק ט״ו, פסוק ז׳

II Chronicles 15:7Sefaria

וְאַתֶּ֣ם חִזְק֔וּ וְאַל־יִרְפּ֖וּ יְדֵיכֶ֑ם כִּ֛י יֵ֥שׁ שָׂכָ֖ר לִפְעֻלַּתְכֶֽם׃ {ס}

A powerful call of encouragement serves to strengthen perseverance on a spiritual and practical journey that has already begun. The underlying message is that sincere effort holds supreme value, even if the ultimate mission remains unfinished.

The primary approach among commentators is that the people are being urged to continue seeking God, serving Him, and walking in His straight paths. This urging is specifically directed at those who have already started to return to God. Having taken the initial steps, they are now required to stay the course and not abandon their newfound direction [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם]. This encouragement is especially vital for the ongoing, practical task of removing idolatry, a massive cleanup effort the people had already set in motion [רלב״ג].

Because the workload is so immense, there is a constant need to gather courage and avoid stepping away from the work [מלבי״ם]. The people receive a firm warning against falling into despair, giving in to weakness, or sliding backward [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

To fuel this persistence, there is a clear promise that God has prepared a great reward for those who walk the path of goodness [מצודת דוד, רלב״ג, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Yet, there is a deeper layer to how this reward is framed. The language used to describe their work specifically highlights the process of engagement, effort, and striving, rather than focusing on a fully completed deed. Because serving God is an endless task with no set boundary, the reward is guaranteed for the very act of stepping up and investing the effort, even if a person cannot possibly finish the entire job on their own [מלבי״ם].
