A profound contrast exists between the false beliefs held by the nations of the world and the creative power of God. The deities worshipped by other nations are not true gods in any sense [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Rather than possessing actual power, these objects of worship are entirely without substance. Some view the concept of these idols as an absolute negation of divinity, marking them as entities completely lacking in reality [מצודת דוד]. Others understand the language used to describe them as an expression of mockery and belittlement, comparing these idols to worthless toys [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. At their core, they represent nothing but emptiness, existing only as lifeless objects fashioned entirely by human hands [רש"י].

Against the sheer helplessness of idolatry, God's immense power stands out clearly. The fundamental difference lies in the nature of creation. Idols are entirely passive objects that people must craft themselves. God, on the other hand, is the active and powerful Creator who formed the heavens, the earth, and everything within them [רש"י, מצודת דוד].
