I Chronicles 16:25Sefaria

כִּי֩ גָד֨וֹל יְהֹוָ֤ה וּמְהֻלָּל֙ מְאֹ֔ד וְנוֹרָ֥א ה֖וּא עַל־כׇּל־אֱלֹהִֽים׃

Recognizing the absolute superiority of God over any other power or entity is central to understanding His true greatness. He is exalted and inspires deep awe [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. When identifying the powers that God surpasses, the primary approach among commentators is that this does not refer to inanimate objects of worship. Instead, it points to high spiritual forces, such as the guiding angels of the nations and other heavenly beings [מצודת דוד, רלב״ג]. God's immense greatness over these spiritual entities lies in their complete lack of independent power. They can only operate within the strict boundaries that He establishes for them, whereas God exercises absolute rule and acts entirely according to His own will [רלב״ג].

While this concept may also encompass the false gods worshipped by various nations, it is inappropriate to simply state that God is more awesome than an idol. Comparing Him to a lifeless, powerless object offers no meaningful praise. Rather, the true message is that once the nations witness God's glory, they will easily discard their man-made beliefs. They will realize that God alone is the creator of the heavens that influence the world. This profound shift is similar to the historical reactions of foreign kings like Nebuchadnezzar and Darius, who saw God's wonders and immediately confessed that no other power could save like Him [רלב״ג].
