The grand celebrations for bringing up the Ark came to a close. King David had just finished organizing the service for the Ark and the Tabernacle, establishing the work shifts for the priests and Levites [מלבי״ם]. With the public ceremonies complete, the paths of the king and the nation diverged [מלבי״ם]. After bidding a peaceful farewell to the Israelites, the people all journeyed back to their own homes [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
At this moment, the king turned away from the tent housing the Ark [מצודת דוד]. His attention shifted toward his own family, heading back to rejoice with his household [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. He went to bless them in the name of God, just as he had previously blessed the entire nation [מצודת דוד].
Notably, unlike the parallel account found in the Book of Samuel, this narrative omits the confrontation between David and Michal, the daughter of Saul. This detail is left out simply because the incident was already recorded in the earlier text [מלבי״ם].
