I Chronicles 16:35Sefaria

During the joyous event of bringing the Ark of the Covenant to its resting place, King David's prayer takes a prophetic turn. Rather than focusing solely on the celebration of the present moment, his words serve as an instruction for future generations. He guides the people to look ahead and pray daily for the rescue and gathering of those who will one day be sent into exile [רד״ק, רלב״ג].

This call to prayer has deep historical roots. According to Midrashic tradition, these songs of praise were originally sung by the very cows that carried the Ark of the Covenant back from the fields of the Philistines. To honor this miraculous event, David established a permanent practice for the nation to recite these prayers before the Ark, setting one for the morning service and another for the evening [רש״י].

While a similar plea for salvation appears in the Book of Psalms, the prayer here is unique. It includes a direct command from David telling the people to speak up and actively ask for God's help, an addition specifically tailored for the grand occasion of welcoming the Ark [רש״י]. By instructing the nation to ask God to save them and gather them from among the nations, David expresses a profound, timeless confidence that God is the ultimate source of their salvation [מצודת דוד].

The ultimate goal of this future rescue and return to their homeland is twofold. First, the people are to offer deep thanks to God for the salvation itself. Second, they are to find their own glory through praising God. The very act of staying close to Him is viewed as a distinct honor and a mark of praise for the people of Israel
