Within the territory of Naphtali, several specific cities were designated for special purposes. One prominent location, Kedesh in the Galilee, served a vital function as one of the three primary cities of refuge situated on the western side of the Jordan River [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Historical records of these settlements sometimes present minor variations in their names. The names of the other cities within Naphtali's borders differ slightly from the parallel account found in the Book of Joshua. For example, the settlement known as Hammon is the exact same place referred to elsewhere as Hamath-dor, and Kiriathaim is identified as the town of Kartan [רלב״ג].
