I Samuel 7:8Sefaria

Facing the overwhelming threat of the Philistine army, the Israelites are gripped by fear. They are acutely aware that their own military strength is entirely insufficient to win the upcoming battle. Recognizing their complete physical helplessness, they turn to their spiritual leader to act as a mediator between them and God, seeking divine intervention for their survival.

They plead with him not to remain silent, urging him to continue doing what is best for them by constantly crying out to God [מצודת דוד]. Their plea is a direct request for him not to quiet his voice in prayer [מצודת ציון]. This desperate appeal occurs even though the people have already witnessed their leader's deep trust in God and his calm faith that his initial prayers have been heard. Their dread of the Philistines is so profound that they cannot simply wait in peace, prompting them to beg him not to stop his prayers even for a moment. They understand that a natural military victory is impossible, and they rely entirely on this continuous prayer to ensure that their rescue will be complete and brought about solely by God [מלבי״ם].
