Isaiah 38:20Sefaria

Surviving a life-threatening illness brings about a profound shift in perspective. A deep recognition of divine rescue fills the heart, naturally leading to a lifelong commitment to gratitude and praise.

The primary approach among commentators is to view this rescue as a completed reality. God planned to deliver the sick person from illness, and He followed through, turning a divine intention into an actual, physical rescue However, another perspective views this moment not just as looking back, but as an ongoing prayer for the future. Even after surviving and thanking God for past miracles, a person must continue asking for His constant presence and protection. In times of health and success, human beings still remain vulnerable to harm without God's continuous help [שד״ל].

In response to this profound rescue, the survivor pledges to compose songs of praise and thanksgiving. This is not a solitary act; the rescued individual plans to play these melodies regularly alongside friends and the official singers in the House of God All commentators agree that this musical celebration is meant to take place directly inside the Temple itself.

Beyond the simple act of making music, this commitment represents a deep spiritual transformation. Melodies and songs that were once played merely for personal entertainment or ordinary daily joy are now repurposed. From this moment forward, the gift of music is dedicated entirely and exclusively to Heaven [מלבי״ם].
