Proverbs 10:22Sefaria

True wealth and prosperity are not the direct result of excessive human effort or natural talent. Instead, they are a gift from heaven. When abundance flows from a divine source, it carries a unique quality of peace, completely free from the anxieties and heavy burdens that usually accompany material success.

The primary approach among commentators is that acquiring wealth depends entirely on God's will and decree, rather than on a person's diligence or wisdom Divine blessing alone is what grants genuine wealth. A person does not need to exhaust himself with grueling work to achieve or increase his fortune, because God's blessing is entirely sufficient to provide for all his needs This blessing can take root even in very small amounts, as God carefully directs events so that prosperity reaches a person without requiring strenuous effort on their part [אלשיך, רלב"ג].

There is a profound difference between natural wealth and divine wealth. Riches generated solely through human effort, or gained improperly, are always paired with sorrow, worry, and grueling toil. The owner of such wealth suffers from constant stress, sleepless nights, a deep fear of financial loss, and a stinginess born from the dread of suddenly not having enough In sharp contrast, when wealth is given as a gift from God, it arrives without suffering. God actively protects this divine gift from robbers and harmful events Consequently, a person does not need to add more painful toil just to maintain his money. Instead, he can simply enjoy his portion with joy, comfort, and true peace of mind Furthermore, when God grants this blessing to a righteous person, He ensures it is not accompanied by any hidden sorrow or punishment [אבן עזרא, אלשיך].

Beyond the material realm, this concept also applies to spiritual riches. From this perspective, true wealth is the acquisition of wisdom and intellect. This type of spiritual abundance brings absolutely no sadness because it is eternal and can never be stolen from its owner Ultimately, this blessing flows from God's deep mercy, enriching the righteous in the present world without causing any pain or diminishing their reward in the World to Come [אלשיך].
