The deepest justification for praising God stems from the absolute perfection and justice that guide His actions. Because He operates with complete honesty and fairness, it is entirely fitting to declare His praise [מצודת דוד]. This call to praise is directed specifically at upright individuals, reflecting God's own constant emphasis throughout the Torah on doing what is right and good, which remains His true desire [אלשיך].

The primary approach among commentators is that the divine word refers to God's decrees and judgments upon humanity. These decisions are executed in the world with total fairness and without any injustice, carried out by angels who act as the messengers of His will [אבן עזרא]. Alternatively, rather than referring to judgment, this divine expression can be understood as the speech that originally created reality, representing the fixed, unchanging, and upright laws of nature [מלבי״ם].

Recognizing that all of God's decrees are rooted in fairness leads to a unique approach to life for the righteous. They live in a state of constant joy, refusing to be saddened by whatever is decided for them [אבן עזרא]. Even when faced with difficult circumstances, they praise God, acknowledge His justice, and understand that these events are ultimately for their benefit. Because of this deep clarity, they are able to express gratitude for hardship with the exact same joy and gladness of heart that they feel when thanking Him for times of goodness [רד״ק].

God's faithfulness in His actions carries multiple layers of meaning depending on the context. Within the natural world, this faithfulness reflects the reliability and persistence of the laws of creation. Phenomena like the cycle of day and night continue seamlessly because God committed to maintaining them forever without interruption [מלבי״ם]. In the context of reward and punishment, however, God's work refers to the ultimate reward granted to the righteous in the World to Come. Here, faithfulness functions like a system of credit or trust. While the evil inclination offers humans immediate gratification, God reserves His reward for the future. For this reason, the righteous must cultivate deep integrity and purity of heart. This ensures they will not question God's ways, allowing them to remain devoted to Him even when their reward is delayed, sustained entirely by their trust [אלשיך].
