A universal call to hear words of wisdom reaches out to all of humanity, spanning every social layer, class, and family line without exception. The primary approach among commentators highlights a sharp contrast between different social tiers. The message speaks directly to the common masses and simple people who lack formal status, while simultaneously addressing the important, wise individuals who hold high rank and influence [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מאירי, מצודת ציון, מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Alternatively, this universal address can be understood through the lens of historical family lines. In this view, one group represents those who trace their roots back to the very first human created by God's own hands [אלשיך], or to the children of Abraham, who was known as the great man [רש״י]. In contrast, the other group represents the descendants of Noah, who was famously called a righteous man or a man of the earth [רש״י, אלשיך].

Beyond social and historical distinctions, the call also embraces the extremes of wealth and poverty, addressing the rich and the poor equally [מצודת דוד]. Every single person needs to hear these teachings of wisdom because no one is immune to error. Whether a person is highly honored or completely ordinary, anyone can fall into the trap of foolishness and make mistakes [רד״ק, מלבי״ם].

On a deeper spiritual level, the gathering of these diverse groups points to the World to Come and exposes the pointlessness of earthly pride. In this current life, people are never truly united, as deep social and economic gaps constantly keep them apart. However, in the world of truth, all classes will finally stand side by side. There, it will become clear that human status is often entirely flipped. A person who was wealthy in this world might find himself poor in the next, and the poor might become rich, revealing an upside-down reality. Ultimately, the true measure of who is wealthy and who is poor will only be known in the world to come [אלשיך].
