A profound declaration of absolute trust in God spans across time, anchoring life from its earliest days into the unknown future. The primary approach among commentators is that God serves as the sole source of hope, a steady presence relied upon since a person's first days on earth.

This deep reliance naturally divides into reflections on the past and the future. Looking ahead, there is an active expectation and hope placed entirely in God for whatever is to come. Looking back, there is a recognition of a solid foundation of trust that has already been established and proven over a lifetime [מלבי״ם].

The concept of trusting God from a young age carries several layers of meaning. On a personal level, it simply means recognizing God early in life and learning to rely on Him from childhood [רד״ק]. Broadening this perspective to a national scale, this early stage does not refer to a person's physical youth. Instead, it reflects the early days of the nation of Israel's exile, a defining period when the people had to place their trust in God despite their displacement [מאירי].

Another approach connects this enduring trust directly to the historical promises given to King David. In this view, David expresses a complete lack of fear toward other people because God assured him that he would not fall by their hands. Although God told him he would face sorrow from within his own family, his ultimate survival from outside enemies was guaranteed, allowing him to place his hope entirely in God. His lifelong trust, therefore, is rooted in the long-term promises God made to him at the very start of his journey and his reign [אלשיך].
