A future vision presents a geopolitical and spiritual shift in the region. Great and arrogant neighboring powers are destined to lose their political independence, ultimately being absorbed into God's territory.

The primary approach among commentators is that this transformation belongs to the Messianic era. Hamath, a massive Syrian city originally located outside the historical boundaries of the land, will be annexed. It is expected to be swallowed up within the expanded northern borders of the land of Israel and Jerusalem [רש״י, מצודת דוד, רד״ק, אברבנאל, מלבי״ם, שטיינזלץ]. Alternatively, another perspective suggests that Hamath itself will serve as the defining marker that sets the new border for Israel [אבן עזרא].

A similar fate awaits the cities of Tyre and Sidon. Once celebrated as global centers of trade, art, and creativity [שטיינזלץ], they too will be brought within the expanded borders. The prophetic focus is specifically placed on Tyre [מצודת דוד, רד״ק, אברבנאל, שטיינזלץ]. The city was characterized by immense political and economic wisdom. Filled with pride, Tyre believed that its deep understanding would guarantee its eternal status as an unconquerable ruling power [רש״י, רד״ק, אברבנאל]. However, the message makes it clear that this great wisdom will ultimately fail. Tyre will no longer be able to rely on its cleverness; instead, it will be forced to surrender and become annexed to Israel [מצודת דוד, רד״ק].

A fascinating historical angle addresses the true identity of Tyre. Because the original ancient city was destroyed by empires and swallowed by the sea long ago, there is a view that this prophecy is actually directed at Venice. According to this tradition, Venice was established by refugees of Tyre who fled across the waters and settled in the middle of the ocean. Therefore, all the prophecies detailing the wealth, pride, and naval dominance of Tyre are seen as coming to life and being perfectly reflected in the maritime power of Venice [אברבנאל].
