עזרא, פרק ח׳, פסוק ל״ד

Ezra 8:34Sefaria

בְּמִסְפָּ֥ר בְּמִשְׁקָ֖ל לַכֹּ֑ל וַיִּכָּתֵ֥ב כׇּֽל־הַמִּשְׁקָ֖ל בָּעֵ֥ת הַהִֽיא׃ {פ}

The transfer of precious treasures to Jerusalem required strict accountability and meticulous care. When vast amounts of wealth were handed over, nothing was left to chance or estimation. The delivery of the vessels, coins, and metals was executed with absolute precision. The primary approach among commentators is that every single item was individually counted and weighed. This thorough accounting applied to everything, but it was directed specifically toward the silver and gold [אבן עזרא]. Those overseeing the transfer took extreme care to ensure a perfect match. The number and weight of the items delivered in Jerusalem were completely identical to the amounts originally received at the beginning of the journey [רש״י].

Once the physical transfer was complete, the entire process was formally documented. An organized, written record was created to serve as a lasting memorial for the future [מצודת דוד]. While the historical account specifically highlights that the weights were recorded, this official ledger naturally included the exact count of all the items as well, ensuring a complete and accurate archive of the handover [מלבי״ם].
