Jeremiah 31:34Sefaria

וְלֹ֧א יְלַמְּד֣וּ ע֗וֹד אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־רֵעֵ֜הוּ וְאִ֤ישׁ אֶת־אָחִיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר דְּע֖וּ אֶת־יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּֽי־כוּלָּם֩ יֵדְע֨וּ אוֹתִ֜י לְמִקְּטַנָּ֤ם וְעַד־גְּדוֹלָם֙ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֔ה כִּ֤י אֶסְלַח֙ לַֽעֲוֺנָ֔ם וּלְחַטָּאתָ֖ם לֹ֥א אֶזְכָּר־עֽוֹד׃ {ס}

A time is coming when spiritual reality will undergo a complete transformation, making the connection to God an inborn, natural human trait. People will no longer need to instruct one another about faith, because the teachings of God will penetrate deeply into their very hearts [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This knowledge of God will cease to be an acquired wisdom that demands intense study and logical proof. Instead, it will become an entirely natural and self-evident concept, much like basic instincts or fundamental truths that require no explanation [אברבנאל].

In the present world, learning is guided by human beings, which means it is temporary and easily forgotten. In the future, however, this instruction will come directly from God through a miracle, ensuring that it remains forever [אברבנאל בשם מדרש ילמדנו]. The idea that every single person, from the youngest child to the oldest adult, will possess this knowledge naturally raises a question. It is impossible for young children to match the intellectual capacity or wisdom of mature adults. Therefore, knowing God in this context does not refer to intellectual equality. Rather, it speaks to a deep reverence for God, a commitment to walk in His ways, and a sense of humility before Him. These spiritual qualities will be firmly planted in the hearts of everyone equally, regardless of their age or social standing [רד״ק, אברבנאל].

The root cause of this profound spiritual shift is tied directly to the complete forgiveness of past wrongs. Wiping away the sins of the exile purifies the nation and cleanses them of every spiritual flaw. This state of purity is exactly what allows the people to receive a new heart and achieve such an elevated level of spiritual understanding [מצודת דוד, רד״ק]. Furthermore, this absolute forgiveness guarantees that the future relationship with God will be built on a pure inner awareness and a deep appreciation of His wonders, rather than stemming from a fear of punishment [אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
