Jeremiah issues clear instructions to Baruch in the full presence of the witnesses who observed the transaction. He tasks Baruch with taking the official scrolls documenting the purchase of the field and safely hiding them away.

The primary approach among commentators is that this legal process involved two distinct scrolls. One was the original, officially sealed document, while the second served as an exact copy. This duplication served a highly practical purpose. By having an accessible copy on hand, Jeremiah could easily prove his ownership of the field whenever necessary, without having to use or risk damaging the sealed original.

To ensure these critical records survived, Jeremiah commanded that both scrolls be placed inside an earthenware jar. The hope was that this clay vessel would protect the documents from decay, preserving the legal evidence of the purchase for many years to come.
