ירמיהו, פרק ל״ב, פסוק כ״ז

Jeremiah 32:27Sefaria

A powerful declaration of God's absolute control over history ensures that His long-term plans will unfold, even through the harsh realities of destruction and exile. He addresses all living creatures in the world [מצודת דוד], establishing that no future events are hidden from His knowledge [רש״י], and absolutely nothing is beyond His ability to accomplish [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This absolute power creates a bridge between the immediate tragedy and a future redemption. On one hand, the city is destined to fall to the Chaldeans. This is a necessary punishment because the people have angered God with their sins. The impending destruction is specifically designed to cleanse the land of idol worship; the very houses that were used as altars to burn incense to the heavenly bodies will be burned to the ground [רד״ק, מלבי״ם]. This severe judgment is a result of God's direct attention to the sins of the current generation. However, His ancient and eternal plan to give the land to the Israelites remains entirely unchanged. While He addresses the immediate sins, He also guides all of history through a broader, overarching plan [מלבי״ם].

Because God possesses this unlimited power, the prophet is commanded to perform a deeply symbolic act: buying a field precisely at the moment of the nation's collapse. Even though the land is currently being handed over to the Chaldeans, God has the power to return it to the Israelites. The purchase of the field serves as a living sign and a source of comfort for the people. It stands as a concrete promise that they will eventually return from their exile and once again buy fields and houses in their homeland [מצודת דוד, רד״ק].
