The daughters of Zelophehad step forward before the leadership to claim the land promised to their family. Their father had died in the wilderness, and they now seek to realize the divine promise originally given to Moses. This request for their father's land is made in addition to the property they already hold through their husbands. The women had married their cousins specifically to ensure that their inheritance would remain securely within the tribe of Manasseh [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
In asking to receive a portion among their brethren, the daughters refer either broadly to the members of their tribe [ביאור שטיינזלץ], or more specifically to their father's brothers, their uncles [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The leadership honors this request, transferring the land to them based on the explicit command of God [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
The placement of their inheritance alongside their father's brothers reveals the full scope of the property they receive. Beyond securing the direct portion of their father, who was among the generation that left Egypt, the daughters also inherit a share of the land belonging to their grandfather, Hepher. They receive this ancestral portion right alongside their uncles [מלבי״ם].
