The monumental task of rebuilding Jerusalem's walls demanded extraordinary dedication, with certain individuals pushing beyond their initial duties to ensure the city's security. Among these dedicated workers was Binnui the son of Henadad. He took on the responsibility of repairing an additional segment of the wall, having already completed a previous section alongside his brothers [מלבי״ם].

His new construction effort stretched from the house of Azariah all the way to the outer edge of the wall. This edge represents the physical end of the wall structure [ביאור שטיינזלץ], specifically marking its southeastern boundary [מלבי״ם]. The building work then continued up to the adjacent corner. The primary approach among commentators is that this corner was not simply a sharp turn in the stone, but rather a fortified watchtower [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מצודת ציון, מלבי״ם]. It was standard practice to construct these defensive towers at the outer angles of city walls.

Detailing both the edge of the wall and the corner tower together highlights the specific layout of the area. It reveals that the absolute end of the wall and the defensive watchtower were built right next to each other, standing as closely attached structures [רלב״ג, מצודת דוד].
