Rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem required a coordinated effort, with different individuals taking responsibility for specific sections along the perimeter. While many were content to finish their assigned portions, some highly dedicated workers returned to take on additional repairs. Meremoth the son of Uriah was one of these devoted builders. Having already completed an earlier section of the wall, he stepped forward to construct a second segment [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מלבי״ם, מצודת דוד]. The length of this new addition was equal to the section completed by Baruch, the builder mentioned just before him [מצודת דוד].

The exact location of Meremoth's second project is marked by the home of Eliashib the High Priest, a large building situated right next to the city wall. Meremoth worked directly opposite this house, building a section that ran parallel to its entire length. His construction started exactly at the front door of the High Priest's home and continued all the way to its furthest back edge [רש״י, רב סעדיה גאון, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
