The restoration of the city defenses advances into the residential district of the priests. Construction in this area took place above the Horse Gate, which functioned as the primary entrance and exit for horses [רלב״ג]. From this gate, the rebuilding efforts progressed upward along the slope, moving toward the higher elevations of the mountain [מצודת דוד].

Along this elevated route, the homes of the priests were situated directly facing the inner side of the wall [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Because of this layout, the labor was divided in a highly practical manner. Each priest accepted the responsibility to rebuild and repair the specific segment of the wall that stood right in front of his own private home [רש״י, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
