Rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem was a massive community effort that required careful organization. To make the project practical and efficient, the labor was divided among the local residents. Homeowners within the city took on the responsibility of repairing the specific sections of the wall that stood directly adjacent to their own properties [רש״י, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
Binyamin and Hashub, for instance, focused their building efforts right across from their home, which was located near the wall. The construction moved forward in a continuous line, with each new section of the wall being built immediately after the previously repaired segment [מצודת דוד]. Following this unbroken chain of labor, Azariah, the son of Maaseiah and grandson of Ananiah, took over the work. Like those before him, he rebuilt the portion of the wall that was situated right next to his own house.
