A person who acts with a pure heart, honesty, and moral perfection [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ, עמנואל הרומי] is guaranteed a life of security. Because they have nothing to hide and do not harm anyone, they move through life without fear and avoid making enemies [אבן עזרא, עמנואל הרומי, אמרי דעת]. This experience is much like standing at a crossroads and choosing the clear, straight main road, where there is no fear of stumbling [מלבי״ם]. This security applies to practical matters, such as conducting honest business [אמרי דעת], as well as to spiritual pursuits. The journey toward good deeds and the World to Come is achieved with calm and peace, supported by God's help [אלשיך].
In sharp contrast, a person who twists their ways, opting for deceit and wrongdoing [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ], is condemned to a life of pain and anxiety. While the honest person enjoys peace of mind, the deceitful individual must exert tremendous effort to maintain their lies. They lose sleep and operate in the shadows, driven by a constant fear of being caught as they pursue their corrupt goals [אלשיך].
Regarding the ultimate fate of the deceitful person, commentators offer two primary perspectives. The first approach focuses on exposure. Eventually, the flaws and crooked actions of the wicked will be revealed to everyone, causing society to reject and distance itself from them [אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ, אמרי דעת]. Even if the wrongdoer believes their actions are perfectly hidden from human eyes, they remain fully visible to God, who will ultimately hold them accountable for their wickedness [עמנואל הרומי]. By choosing a twisted path, the deceitful person willingly exposes themselves to the hidden dangers of that lifestyle.
