God's eternal kindness is a gift passed down through generations, yet it is deeply tied to the spiritual choices of those who inherit it. When descendants choose to follow the path of the Torah, they secure not only their own reward but also the gathered merit of their ancestors, ensuring this blessing continues for those who come after them. The primary approach among commentators is that this condition for receiving God's kindness is emphasized through repetition, highlighting the simple requirement to follow His Commandments [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

However, others see a deeper distinction, viewing this as a description of two distinct levels of serving God. The first level consists of those who observe the covenant out of a sense of awe. The second, higher level describes those who serve God out of pure love. For these individuals, His instructions are permanently etched into their hearts, and they never lose focus on them, even for a single moment [אבן עזרא].

Another perspective focuses on the relationship between learning and doing. The act of verbally remembering and studying the Commandments must be driven by a clear, practical goal to fulfill them in real life. Merely studying without the intention to act is considered unworthy [רד״ק].

Conversely, great value is also placed on pure intention itself. If a person is physically unable to perform certain positive Commandments, simply remembering them with a complete and sincere desire to do them creates a powerful merit. This pure intention is enough to draw God's kindness down to their grandchildren. Alongside this inner devotion, there is also a demand for active protection of the covenant from impurity. Failing to guard this spiritual purity can lead to collective consequences that affect everyone, regardless of their personal goodness [אלשיך].
