The narrative moves swiftly, skipping over the actual moment Gehazi asks these questions. Instead, it jumps directly to the woman's brief response that all is well. This concise storytelling method assumes the reader understands that the servant carried out his orders and posed the questions before she replied [רש״י].

Her remarkably short answer is a deliberate attempt to hide the tragedy that has just befallen her child. She chooses to claim that everything is fine because she has no desire to share the painful details with the servant, preferring to keep the matter private until she can speak directly with Elisha [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Furthermore, she avoids stating the disaster out loud out of a deep reluctance to speak of the tragedy explicitly, not wanting to invite further harm by putting the terrible event into words [רלב״ג].
