Against all natural odds, the prophet's promise to the Shunammite woman comes to full fruition. Exactly one year after receiving the news, she conceives and gives birth to a son [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The timing of the birth aligns perfectly with the exact season of the original promise, finding her alive and well just as foretold [רש"י, רד"ק]. Every detail unfolds precisely according to the prophet's word [מצודת דוד].

This miraculous birth does not stem from a standard prayer directed to God. Instead, it is brought about by the direct decree of the prophet himself, illustrating the principle that when a righteous person makes a decree, God fulfills it [מלבי"ם].

The profound nature of this event extends beyond the birth itself. The announcement and the ensuing pregnancy spark a physical transformation within the woman, restoring her youth and beauty. This sudden change explains a later interaction with the prophet's servant, Gehazi. Although he had visited her home many times before, it is only after this transformation that he takes notice of her beauty and attempts to push her away [אלשיך].

Yet, alongside the great joy of welcoming a son, a heavy fear shadows the mother. Because her pregnancy defies the laws of nature and arrives as an open miracle, she worries that the child's life might be fragile and temporary. She is plagued by the thought that the miracle might act like a dried-up spring, leaving her with a fleeting gift that cannot endure the test of time [אלשיך].
