The impending destruction of the Chaldean land will be absolute, leaving its inhabitants with nowhere to hide. The intensity of this devastating blow is emphasized through a repeated warning of total ruin, driving home the inescapable nature of the attack [רד"ק].

The slaughter will spare no location. Out in the wide, open country, the fallen will be scattered across the land. Meanwhile, those who attempt to escape the battlefield will face a similarly grim fate, suffering fatal blows from swords and spears [מצודת ציון].

The pursuit of the fleeing population will be relentless. Attackers will chase the survivors all the way into the narrow alleys and hidden spaces behind the city houses [מלבי"ם באור המילות]. It is in these tight, confined areas that the fleeing victims will ultimately fall [מצודת דוד]. Even the desperate few who try to seek shelter and hide in these back streets will be hunted down and pierced with spears, ensuring that the devastation is complete [מלבי"ם].
